• What is an FTA (Failure to Appear) Suspension?

A FTA (Failure to Appear) suspension occurs when your license and driving privileges are suspended due to your Failure to Appear in court and/or pay the citation prior to your court date.

• Who should I contact about my FTA?

For Citations that occurred in Georgia - Customers should contact the court where the violation is listed and pay the fine. Obtain a court release form DDS-912 The release should then be submitted to DDS for evaluation.

 
If the FTA is cleared with the court within 28 days of the missed court date then no fees are due to DDS. If the FTA is cleared more than 28 days from the missed court date then fees may be due to DDS.
• What if my FTA (Failure to Appear) is from an Out – of – State Court?

For Citations that occurred out of state - Customers should contact the court where the violation is listed and pay the fine. Obtain a court receipt stamped and certified with the following information: Citation Number, Customer Name, Court Information, Date of citation, Date of conviction, Legal Code, Description, Date fine was paid.

 

If the FTA is cleared with the court within 28 days of the missed court date then no fees are due to DDS. If the FTA is cleared more than 28 days from the missed court date then fees may be due to DDS.

 

• How long will it take for the FTA suspension to go into effect?

The FTA (Failure to Appear) suspension will go into effect in 28 calendar days, after DDS is notified that you did not appear in court.

• What are the requirements to clear an FTA Suspension?

DDS must receive a Release of Fine and Fees Form (DS-912), or certified court document with the same information, indicating that the FTA has been cleared. Obtain a court receipt stamped and certified with the following information: Citation Number, Customer Name, Court Information, Date of citation, Date of conviction, Legal Code, Description, Date fine was paid, and pay the reinstatement fee.

• I received my release, how can I report the court release to DDS without visiting a CSC?

In most cases the failure to appear release is submitted to DDS electronically. Verify with the court on the submission of the release and provide a document with the same information that the FTA has been cleared.

 

If the court has not electronically submitted the release, you need to send DDS the obtained court receipt stamped and certified with the following information: Citation Number, Customer Name, Court Information, Date of citation, Date of conviction, Legal Code, Description, Date fine was paid. Mail the court release and reinstatement fee to:

• When will my driving privileges be reinstated after I pay my fees?

Once the release is received and the fee has been paid, your Driving privileges will be reinstated immediately.
